Press Release Oberfinanzdirektion Karlsruhe

Increase in lump sums for people with disabilities

On 1 January 2021, various changes will come into force with regard to wage and income tax for people with disabilities. It is planned to double the lump sums for people with disabilities and, for the first time, to grant a lump sum for people with disabilities with a degree of disability of at least 20 and to waive additional eligibility requirements for the granting of a lump sum for people with disabilities with a degree of disability of less than 50.

In addition, the current care lump sum of 924 euros will be increased to 1,800 euros. In the case of home care for people classified in care degrees 2 and 3, the person providing care will also be granted a care lump sum of 600 euros and 1,100 euros respectively in future.
With these changes in the Income Tax Act, many people with disabilities will be spared the time-consuming individual proof of their disability-related additional expenses in the future as well. In addition, the services of caring relatives will receive greater appreciation and personal recognition in the future.
All further information can be found on the website of the Oberfinanzdirektion Karlsruhe at the "FAQ Taxes" under the item "Disability lump sum".
