Did you know that you can also submit many of these forms digitally via ELSTER? If you submit your tax return via ELSTER, you benefit from a plausibility check and the option of transferring data from the previous year, among other things. With electronic document retrieval, you can transfer the data available at the tax office, such as insurance or employer data (salary, pension, health insurance contributions) directly into your return.

In many cases, you are obliged to submit your tax return electronically. You can find a list of the circumstances in which electronic submission is mandatory on the ELSTER homepage.

Note: Only in exceptional cases of hardship is it possible to waive electronic submission (Section 150 (8) of the German Fiscal Code - AO). You must apply for this at the relevant tax office.

For information on the processing of personal data in the tax administration and on your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation as well as on your contacts in data protection matters, please refer to the general information letter from the tax administration.

Submitting receipts is no longer necessary!

You do not need to send any receipts or separate statements to your tax office. It is sufficient if you keep them for possible queries

Please only submit receipts on request!
