The tax office Lahr collected 619.7 million euros in taxes last year. Measured against the previous year's revenue, this represents an increase of around 12%. This continues the upward trend seen in 2021. "In view of the general economic conditions, this was not to be expected," says the head of the office, Christian Buss.
If the income tax revenue in 2021 could not yet reach the pre-Coronadelle level, it increased in 2022 by 5.5% to 242.6 million euros and as a result exceeded the revenue of 2019. Thus, the "Coronadelle" was also clearly balanced in the area of income tax.
Income tax revenue increased significantly in 2022, exceeding the previous year's revenue by approximately 30%. While the revenue from this type of tax in 2021 had lagged behind that of 2019, it rose to 101.8 million euros in 2022, overtaking the revenue before the start of the pandemic.
While sales tax revenue in 2021 had still increased by 28% compared to 2020, the trend in this area flattened out, with revenue here growing by 4.2% to reach 141.8 million euros. "One explanation for this could be that sales tax revenue partly reflects the inflation situation," the authority head said.
Corporate income tax revenue increased to 56.7 million euros compared to 2021, and consequently approached a doubling compared to the pre-Corona level of 34 million euros.
Whereas revenue from other taxes had declined significantly to 59.1 million euros in 2021, partly due to the partial elimination of the solidarity surcharge, it recovered again last year and rose to a total of 73.8 million euros (25%). The reason for this is, on the one hand, the significant increase in capital gains tax revenue by 80% (17.5 million euros) compared to the previous year (9.7 million euros). On the other hand, there has also been an increase in revenue from real estate transfer tax (2021: 23.67 million euros, 2022: 26.73 million euros), church taxes (2021: 14.19 million euros, 2022: 16.5 million euros) and the solidarity surcharge (2021: 8.37 million euros, 2022: 10.58 million euros).
Overall, the head of the office was very satisfied: The effects of the Corona pandemic are no longer being felt in tax revenue, and the economic development of the companies in the tax office's area of responsibility continues to be very good.
