Pilot project "Tax Office of the Future" (FiZ)

With the project "Tax Office of the Future", we want to improve the service for citizens, companies and tax advisors, as well as make the work processes in the tax offices more future-oriented. To this end, we are testing innovations for digital communication and for improving citizen service in five of the 65 tax offices. In this way, we are testing how our tax offices can become even faster, more efficient and more citizen-friendly.

The state's tax offices were able to apply for the pilot project with creative and innovative ideas as the future "tax office of the future". The tax offices Bruchsal, Offenburg, Öhringen, Ravensburg and Rottweil were successful.

Together with the five tax offices of the future, we want to significantly expand citizen services and make tax administration more transparent for the citizens of the state. This will be possible, for example, through online appointment and callback systems, modern forms of communication and the expansion of digital (paperless) case processing.

With"My ELSTER" we already have a very broad digital offering. The aim is to make it even more attractive and to support citizens in using it. For this purpose, so-called ELSTER PCs will be available in the central information and acceptance offices (service centres) of the tax offices of the future to provide direct support to citizens, for example, during registration (authentication) and with questions about ELSTER. In addition, citizens will be able to use the "My " service directly.

In addition, free Internet access via WLAN is available to citizens in the tax offices of the future. This makes it possible to access digital services in the public areas at any time.

With our own YouTube channel "Steuern mal anders, einfach erklärt" (Taxes in a different way, simply explained), we are also breaking new ground in the area of digital citizen services and offering citizens round-the-clock explanations of relevant topics in the form of short explanatory videos. We are continuously expanding this service.

Background "digital@bw"

Digitisation is a central focus of the state government's work. To this end, it has launched an investment offensive: around one billion euros will be invested in digitisation during this legislative period. With "digital@bw", the first state-wide and cross-departmental digitisation strategy was presented in summer 2017, which was created in teamwork by all ministries. Over the next two years, more than 70 very specific projects with a volume of more than 300 million euros will be implemented to anchor Baden-Württemberg as a leading region for digital transformation in Europe. One of the focal points of "digital@bw" is Administration 4.0. With www.digital-bw.de, the state government has also launched a central online portal as a new showcase for digitalisation.
