Does the tax office pay child benefit?

The tax office does not pay out child benefit. Child benefit is determined and paid by the family benefits office (Familienkasse ). The family benefits office is usually the employment agency or, in the case of public service employees, the employer. The local jurisdiction of the family benefits office depends primarily on the place of residence of the person entitled to child benefit.
